Watch our eNews for updates on legislation that a ects you. e spirits industry has seen steady growth for a decade now. And while there are many positive indicators on the horizon, we have to remain focused and vigilant. Of primary concern is the federal excise tax (FET) reduction signed into law in the nal days of 2019. It is only a temporary win, expiring at the end of 2020, so we must redouble our e orts to see this reduction made permanent. Another major priority are the legislative battles on the state level. ADI has set a goal of seeing all states establish the same basic freedoms regardless of the size of the distillery. Our position is that the following set of privileges should be shared by all distilleries, in all states in the US: • No restrictions on distillery ownership structure • Ability to acquire permits to sell products at local farmers markets • Unlimited, direct-to-consumer on-site bottle sales • Satellite tasting room licenses for beer, wine and spirits • Unlimited tasting room sales by the glass (within limits of responsible consumption) • Tasting room hours of operation: 7 days a week, 9 am to 12 pm ADI will work to the best of our abilities to organize and inform, but the state guilds will have to do the heavy lifting here. Communication with consumers is vital, as well as mobilization of consumers to reach out to their local poli- ticians. Real change is possible, but will require a multi-year, comprehensive, all-hands-on-deck approach. Postponing the conference has been a huge disappoint- ment to us all. We are facing certain change on a global scale with regard to how we live our daily lives. e ADI team is committed to persevere, to nd creative and sustainable ways to adapt, and to remain dedicated to growing this ex- citing industry. And despite recent setbacks, we couldn't be more enthusiastic about the year ahead. We believe our latest projects and goals for the future will help continue to bring prosperity to the craft distilling community as a whole. And as always we hope to connect further with you, our mem- bers — without you none of this would be possible. ank you for your support of ADI, and please keep in touch with questions, comments and ideas of how we can better sup- port the industry we are all working so hard to build. Sincerely, Erik Owens, President
